About Us

Fairfax Adult Softball (FAS) administers an adult softball program under the auspices of the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services. FAS is a nonprofit corporation, incorporated in May 1977, and registered in the state of Virginia. FAS is governed by a Board of Directors each of whom are elected by the managers in the spring/summer program. All Directors and Officers serve without financial compensation. FAS has two paid staff members, but its operation depends heavily upon the countless volunteer hours donated by its members.

FAS exists to promote the general welfare of the adult softball program within Fairfax County, on behalf of the individual participants, at all levels of organizational emphasis and play. To this direction, FAS offers three seasons of play and several leagues in which to participate. Our spring/summer program is divided into two seasons: Early Open (April through June/July) and Late Open (June through August). Our third season is our fall program which begins the day after Labor Day and continues through October.

We have several leagues within our program and each league is divided into divisions. Our goal is to have each division be competitive, so we try to place each team in a division with other teams of the same caliber play. The leagues are as follows:

Men's. The league is for men only. Men's play can be broadly classified as Excellent to Fair. The very competitive teams are placed in the upper divisions. There are two leagues within the Men's program: Early Open and Late Open.
Reston Men's, Church and Coed. Participants must be men in the Men's and Church leagues. Divisions are seeded based on night of play preferences and not necessarily competitive strength. All three leagues are Early Open leagues and play all games on fields located in Reston/Herndon.
Men's Masters. Participants must be men and must be at least 35 years old by December 31 of the current year. Men's Masters is a Late Open league.
Women's. The league is for women only and is an Early Open program.
Women's Masters. Participants must be women and must be at least 35 years old by December 31 of the current year. Women's Masters is an Early Open program.
Coed. The league is for men and women. Play is designed to use even numbers of males and females in the lineup and on the field at all times. There is both an Early and Late Open program.
Corporate Coed. The league is for men and women and all players on the roster must be full-time employees of the sponsoring firm. A minimum of three women are required in the lineup and on the field at all times. The league is a Late Open program.
Seniors. The league is for men 50 years of age & older by December 31 of the current year and is a Late Open program.

Games are played at park or school fields located in Fairfax County and are played as double headers, one night per week. Each team must supply softballs (as designated in the FAS Rule Book) and their own bats, gloves, and any other playing equipment (except bases, which FAS provides). There is no uniform requirement for any league.

At all times, 2/3 of your roster must be Fairfax County residents. (Exception for teams comprised entirely of full-time employees of a sponsoring company located in the City or County of Fairfax; note: under this exception and for corporate coed teams, roster eligibility must be verified by an official of the sponsoring company.) For all leagues, the roster limit is 30 maximum (12 minimum), however, the non-county maximum on any roster is eight.

Our office is located at 14701 Lee Highway, Suite 302, Centreville, VA 20121. The office is staffed between the hours of 12:00 noon and 5:30 p.m. weekdays (except Fairfax County government holidays). Call us at (703) 815-9007 if you have questions, or you may send e-mail to office@fairfaxadultsoftball.com.
