LEAGUES.  FAS has four programs: Spring, Summer, Mini, and Fall.  Each program consists of designated leagues, and each league is divided into divisions. Our goal is to have each division be competitive; therefore we try to place each team in a division with other teams of the same caliber of play. Please select the correct night of play for the competition level of your team.

SEEDING. We welcome your input about your team’s level of play, which will assist us when we seed the teams into divisions. Please make comments in the “Team Strength” comment box of the application.  Provide information such as your players’ and team’s level of play (in this or other leagues), any prior experience, and your own guess as to what division would be right for your team.

GAME PLAY. Sixty-minute games will be played as double headers, one night per week. WEEKNIGHT PLAY is from 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening through Friday night (some fields require a 6:00 pm start time). WEEKEND PLAY is all day Saturday, and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Schedules are not manipulated to avoid conflicts. Rainouts are predominantly rescheduled on Saturdays. All games are played on park or school fields located in Fairfax County.

PRACTICE FIELDS.  FAS only assigns practice fields for Spring and Summer league programs.  The Practice Field Application is posted on the website, and is processed on a first-come, first-served basis.  We do not assign practice fields for the Mini or Fall Leagues; however, most parks and schools are open on a first-come, first-served basis.  Permitted users always take priority.

FRANCHISE FEES are non-refundable. Your preferred day/night of play is not guaranteed! Do not submit an application if you are not prepared to play on any day of the week or weekend or at whichever field FAS deems appropriate.

EQUIPMENT. Each team must supply softballs (as designated in the FAS Rule Book)--teams need at least one dozen softballs for league play – note: all women in any league (except Church) hit an 11-inch softball and all men hit a 12-inch ASA approved Dudley Thunder Hycon optic yellow softball. Your team will also have to supply its own bats, gloves, uniforms, and any other playing equipment (except bases, which FAS provides).  All protective gear (e.g. pitcher’s masks, catcher’s helmets/masks, leg/shin guards, arm/hand guards) is permitted in FAS play. There is no uniform requirement for any league.  Approved softballs are available for pre-order with your application submission at a discounted price, or they may be picked up from the FAS office.

TEAM ROSTERS.  Rosters are submitted ONLY via the FAS website on your “Manager Home” page.   A roster is NOT considered submitted until payment is received.  Rosters are due TWO (2) BUSINESS DAYS prior to your first scheduled game with applicable non-county fees ($31 per non-county resident/$30 cash discounted.)  Failure to submit rosters on time will result in the team being charged with a 7-0 loss for each game scheduled during the period in which the proper complete roster is not on file with FAS.  This rule will be strictly enforced.  At all times, 2/3 of your roster must be Fairfax County residents.  (Exception for teams comprised entirely of employees of a sponsoring business(es) located in the City or County of Fairfax; note: under this exception and for corporate coed teams, roster eligibility must be verified by an official of the sponsoring company and the exception is only to waive the 2/3 requirement and does not waive the payment of the non-county resident fee.)  For all leagues, the roster limit is 30 maximum (12 minimum). Rosters are checked and verified against the computer database. NOTE: The Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) will conduct random roster audits to verify the accuracy of the 2/3 compliance.  Teams found in violation of an audit check risk a $100 fine from NCS payable before the team is allowed to continue with FAS play.  An approved proof of residency for each player on your roster who lives within Fairfax County or the City of Fairfax may include: driver’s license, Fairfax County real estate or personal property tax bill, any current utility bill, a military ID, a DMV identification card, and a lease or renter’s agreement. County residents unable to provide an approved proof of residency must pay a $31 fee. Non-county residents are not required to show any proof of their address; they simply pay the $31 non-county resident fee. (Active military personnel located outside of Fairfax County are exempt from paying the non-county fee provided a current military id is presented.)  Please note: the only acceptable proof for an identity check is a valid military, DMV, or passport photo id.

ASA REGISTRATION.  FAS will register your team with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) for all 4 programs. Teams may elect to join the other national softball associations by contacting the appropriate representative.

SCHEDULE NOTIFICATION.   Schedules will be posted on the FAS website two weeks prior to the season start for all programs

RULEBOOKS / SCOREBOOKS.   FAS has an FAS Rule Book, ASA Rule Book, and Scorebook for every team.  Each team should have copies of these documents which may be picked up from the FAS office.  The FAS Rules may also be viewed on the FAS Home Page.
