2016 Volunteer of the Year

Fairfax Adult Softball Honors Vice President for Selfless Service

John Knouff Awarded Volunteer of the Year for Second Consecutive Year

Fairfax Adult Softball (FAS), the largest adult ASA softball league in the country, celebrated the spirit of altruism at PJ Skidoos in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday, February 16th.  “2017 is the 40th Anniversary of FAS and the Hall of Fame banquet is the only way we can truly show our appreciation to our amazing volunteers!  These are the people who have shaped the program and made it the success it has become throughout our 40 year existence,” said Program Director Christine Idip.

The volunteer award was created to recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding volunteer service over the course of 12 months and consistently strive to improve the FAS program. “John Knouff was undoubtedly the most committed volunteer for the second year in a row. His time and devotion to all facets of FAS is simply unmatched,” Idip explained. Because of this, he was awarded the “Edmund Greene Volunteer of the Year” award for the second year in a row. This award was recently renamed in honor of long-time Board member, Edmund Green who passed away in April.

“Winning the Edmund Greene Volunteer of the Year Award is very special and means a lot to me. First, Edmund gave every bit of himself to FAS. He loved the program and would do anything for it. I’m hopeful that my efforts, dedication, and loyalty align with what he gave to FAS during his tenure,” Knouff said. “Second, I truly appreciate that I am being recognized for my work with this organization. I do it simply because I love the program and the fact that there are folks out there that stop and look, speaks volumes for the quality people we have here at FAS.”

Along with the Volunteer of the Year award, we also honored our 2016 Hall of Fame inductees.  Two players and a team were introduced by members of the FAS family and presented awards for their dedication to the program. We had a record number of attendees come out to support these athletes; some of which came from states away and hadn’t seen each other in several years! Inductees, staff and members of the FAS Board of Directors and their family members enjoyed a plated dinner and dessert while taking part in our favorite event on the annual calendar!

“The event is amazing every year and I love what I do. I enjoy working with the staff and all my peers on the EC and BOD. We have something very special going on here. I truly enjoy being a part of this organization and the future is bright!” said Knouff. Learn how to become a member of this amazing organization at www.fairfaxadultsoftball.com!
