FAS Increases Team Registration 3 Seasons in a Row

Although Fairfax Adult Softball (FAS) is the largest ASA adult league in the nation, they too were falling into the typical narrative you often hear regarding softball which is “decline, decline, and decline.” In the spring of 2017, FAS had 309 teams registered which was a significant drop from the previous spring season. However, the negative trend officially ended the following season! Summer of 2017 was the first season in many years that FAS saw a surge in team numbers and they finished off the year strong with another increase in the fall season as well!

After a long winter break, FAS is starting 2018 off with their third straight season of increased team registration numbers. There are currently 325 teams participating which is an amazing 16 team increase. This includes the acquisition of an engineering league that will be the newest member of the FAS family.  In addition, free agent registrations have doubled each season over the past year. “There are many other sports that adults can choose from these days so, to see the numbers where they are and continuing to climb, is really exciting!” said FAS Marketing Director, Rebecca Frece.

Not only are the team and free agent numbers on the rise but they also have one of the largest umpire rosters in several years. “We have 13 rookies and 4 others that came out of retirement for a 65 person umpire crew” said FAS Director, Christine Idip. “We really take pride in putting the best product possible on the field for our players and we don’t plan on resting on our laurels.” FAS has every intention of continuing their success by increasing their marketing efforts and developing creative new leagues and events for their customers.

Just last year, they developed two new leagues including a USSSA sanctioned men’s league and a Saturday modified coed league both acquiring full divisions in their inaugural seasons. “We really have to thank our FAS family for your continued support. We are working hard for you in order to not only be the biggest, but the best” said Idip.
