TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS:  Sharon Sealock and Christine Frece  Cell: 703-772-1899

The tented area behind Braddock Park, Field #4

YOUR TOURNAMENT ROSTER is due to the tournament director BEFORE THE FIRST PITCH OF YOUR FIRST SCHEDULED GAME.  You may email it to the FAS office (office@fairfaxadultsoftball.com) or bring with you to the tournament, but be sure to deliver to Sharon or Christine prior to the first pitch of your first scheduled game. The maximum number of players on your roster is 20.  Please note: once the roster is submitted, no additions or changes are permitted; make sure you include anyone that may be showing up late or on Sunday so they are able to participate.  Players need not be present to be included on a team roster.  ONLY rostered players are permitted to play in any game of the tournament; and no player may play for more than one team in the tournament.

A COIN TOSS determines home team for all games except the championship game where the winner of the winner's bracket has choice of home/visitor.

SOFTBALLS FOR ALL GAMES are being provided by FAS.  The ASA Dudley Thunder Hycon 52 cor/300-lb compression softball will be the only softball permitted in all games of the tournament.  Only the softballs provided by the umpires will be allowed in all game play even though you may have stock of the same ball in your personal inventory.

TIME LIMITS of no new inning beginning after 60 minutes of play will be imposed for all games except the championship and ‘if’ games.  The FAS one-pitch extra inning rule is NOT in effect for the championship and ‘if’ games.

HOME RUN RULES.

·        Competitive Bracket play: 4 home runs and the excess is a dead-ball out; the ball is dead, the batter is out, and no runners can advance.

·        Recreational Bracket play:  Any home run is an inning-ending, dead-ball out; the ball is dead, the batter is out, no runner can advance, and the half-inning will immediately end.

PRE-GAME MULLIGANS are something we encourage all teams to purchase at each game.  This is often referred to as a "Buy-Back" or "Redo" option in other tournaments.  Teams MUST purchase the mulligan at the pre-game or prior to the first pitch of each game.  The cost is $10 cash and paid directly to your umpire.  100% of this $10 fee goes directly to Wounded Warrior Project!!!!  Here's how the mulligan works.  It may be used only ONCE per game.  It allows a team, while playing either offense OR defense, to force a player to bat again with the hopes of changing the original outcome of that player's at-bat.  For example:  It's the bottom of the 7th inning, defense (visiting team) is winning by 2 runs.  Offense is home team and has bases loaded and 2 outs.  Batter 7 steps into the box and hits a line drive gapper to the fence and 3 runs score and it appears they have won the game by 1 run.  The manager from the visiting team runs in from left field and wants to use their mulligan.  THIS IS GOOD.  You return all runners to the bases they occupied prior to batter 7 hitting, and batter 7 returns to the plate with a fresh, new 1-1 count to try again.  Let's say in this scenario, batter 7 now pops up for the third out and it appears they have lost the game.  The Home Team could, if they had not previously used their mulligan, use their mulligan to have batter 7 return to the plate AGAIN, with a fresh, new 1-1 count to try once more.  GENERALLY, teams don't wait to the last out of the game to use their mulligans.  Another example:  Top of the 4th inning, visiting team batting with bases loaded and 1 out.  Batter 4 hits into a double play for outs 2 and 3.  The batting team could use their mulligan to have batter 4 hit again.  Just remember, the mulligan can ONLY be used once per game and can ONLY be used to force a player to bat again.

THE FAS FIELD STATUS LINE is: 703-550-4111.  Weather pending, the tournament could be reduced to a single elimination or not held at all.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT ASAP.  We are keeping positive thoughts for the weather this Saturday, but Mother Nature may have something else in mind.  Trying to be proactive and trying to accommodate all team’s schedules, we would appreciate you polling your players to determine alternatives should we lose Saturday to weather.  Please let us know if you can: 1) play Sunday, Oct 30; 2) play Saturday, Nov 5; or 3) if BOTH DATES WORK FOR YOUR TEAM.  Remember, rosters are open, so you can change it up if necessary to accommodate the alternatives.   Please email your team vote at your earliest convenience.
